Food for Art

I’ve taught art education since 1982. Yes, I am the energetic, often over-enthusiastic middle school art teacher you might have heard of. I always seem to have more ideas than I have funds for so instead of pouting about it I created Food for Art. Each summer I set up a roadside cart filled with surplus vegetables from my garden. My motto: Take what you need, donate what you can. All proceeds go to fund special art units at my school. Cheer me on as I try to break last year’s record!


Back to school. I always have mixed emotions about this time of the year. I have been teaching middle school art for almost 30 years and as much as I love it—with all my heart—I drag my feet a little bit more each year as summer comes to an end. Where in the heck did the last three months go? It was an emotional summer for me and my family with Jack's surgery and my daughter's wedding. Next week I will be greeting my new students, approximately 180 of them! I sigh a huge relief knowing all is well and I can now turn my focus toward an optimistic school year.
